Job SummaryAs a Mental Health Specialist, you will be responsible for providing psychiatric care to adult, adolescent, and child patients by planning and implementing milieu treatment, considering patient needs and therapeutic goals. You will work closely with the Charge Nurse and other unit staff to assess and evaluate patient mental status, initiate and maintain a therapeutic relationship, and collaborate in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Key Responsibilities- Provide milieu therapy to assigned patients, including collaborating with the nurse therapist to determine a milieu treatment approach and administering an initial psychological assessment.
- Participate in milieu therapy for patients on an individual or group basis, leading or assisting in milieu groups, and incorporating knowledge of each patient's condition and application of various therapeutic techniques.
- Collaborate with other unit staff in assessing and evaluating patient mental status, initiating and maintaining a therapeutic relationship, and collaborating in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Provide supportive care to patients, including participating in conversation, recreational activities, and basic living activities, and setting limits, confronting counterproductive activities and behavior, and reassuring and orienting patients.
- Record all appropriate information on patient charts, prepare regular reports describing each patient's mental status and functioning, and report and document overt, covert, verbal, and non-verbal communications by patients.
- Bachelor's Degree in psychology or a related field preferred.
- Bilingual preferred (Spanish/English).
- BLS required.
