About the Role

Selective Insurance is seeking a highly skilled Agency Management Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with our agents, regional underwriting team, and corporate departments.

Your primary objective will be to assess the strengths and weaknesses of our agents and assist them in achieving profitable growth in both volume and policy count. You will ensure that our agents are familiar with and utilize our initiatives, products, policies, procedures, and services.

This role requires a results-oriented individual with superior communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. You must be a high achiever with superior organizational skills, self-motivated, proactive, flexible, and able to work independently from a remote location.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop an agency force that pre-qualifies accounts, uses CLAS for in-house rates, and recognizes the value of the AMS position to help them write new profitable business and achieve agency goals.
  • Makes consistent underwriting decisions, adheres to company pricing philosophies, and promotes ease of doing business with Selective.
  • Monitors agency results and follows up with agents on growth, profitability, share of wallet, and compliance with company initiatives, procedures, and policies.
  • Develops professional working relationships with agents, regional underwriting, and claim teams, and corporate departments.
  • Keeps two-way communication between agents and the company continuously open and viable, encouraging agent usage of all Selective systems, including CLAS, PLUS, and e-Select.
  • Performs inspections as determined by the Loss Control Guide, makes risk improvement or correction of deficiency recommendations, and promptly follows up on same, documenting the file accordingly.
  • Stays alert for and advises the company of any industry information, new ideas, products, or changes in other carrier philosophies that could positively or adversely affect Selective.
  • Audits agents' One & Done book of business and provides quality assurance feedback to agents and underwriting teams.
  • Meets regularly with CMS, Loss Control Rep, Bond Rep, and Personal Lines Rep (if applicable) to discuss agency opportunities for greater growth and profit.
  • Must be able to drive an automobile to travel within the territory, with car travel representing approximately 40-50% of the employee's time.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Must be results-oriented with a proven track record in establishing, prioritizing, and achieving business goals.
  • Demonstrated superior communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Must be a high achiever with superior organizational skills, self-motivated, proactive, flexible, and able to work independently from a remote location.
  • Must be able to maximize technology to ensure high productivity, with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and all internal business-related software.
  • Must have a valid state-issued driver's license in good standing and be able to drive an automobile.
  • College degree preferred with 5+ years of underwriting, marketing, or field underwriting experience.
  • The following experience is preferred: 3 years of Agency Management, rating, and 2 years of Claims, Loss Control - Inspection.
