Strategic Department Associate Director

The Senior Administrative Leader for the Strategy Department will provide thought leadership in reviewing and recommending policy and procedure designed to enhance operational excellence. This role will ensure the effective, compliant, and efficient daily management of all operational, financial, and business functions in support of the business area's mission and in coordination with central offices such as HR, Budget, Facilities, IT, and Provost.
The Senior Administrative Leader will represent the business area on internal and external administrative affairs by recommending alternatives and suggestions. This role will be an integral part of the Kellogg faculty support infrastructure, providing primary administrative oversight to the Strategy department. Reporting to the Director of Academic Departments, the Senior Administrative Leader will work closely with department leadership and serve as the senior administrator for all academic operations, supervising the administrative staff and functioning as the central liaison to the department chair(s), faculty, and doctoral students.
This role will support faculty community by delivering and developing best practices and standard operating procedures within a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Within the department and in collaboration with school administrative teams, the Senior Administrative Leader will coordinate course planning and logistics, seminar programming, and PhD student recruitment. The Senior Administrative Leader will oversee student, temporary staff, and contractor hiring to support teaching and research, and work closely with department leadership to ensure all curricular support needs are met.
**Responsibilities:**
- Budget & Financial: Serve a primary role in the development and implementation of annual budget, including fiscal resource allocation of appropriated, discretionary, endowment, and gift revenues.
- Facilities & Safety: Monitor area facilities conditions and direct requests to Facilities Management using FAMIS.
- Faculty Support: Manage administration of faculty recruitment, including ads, candidate communication, interview, and visit.
- Grants & Contracts: Oversee and/or complete pre- and post-award research administration.
- Human Resources: Manage implementation of human resource programs, policies, procedures, and talent management lifecycle.
- IT Services: Ensure necessary hardware, software, and network infrastructure services are appropriated from central or internal IT.
- Strategic Planning: Manage and implement strategic operation plans.
- Student Support: Implement department strategy regarding structure, process, and staff support of students in compliance with NU policy.
Requirements:
- Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as business, accounting, or related.
- 5 years' administrative experience, including budgets, finance, grants, facilities, and/or human resources.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree preferred.
- Experience in an educational setting with a focus on supporting faculty excellence.
- 3-5 years management experience leading dynamic teams.
