Position Title: Enrichment Teacher

Reports to: Vice President, Education and Leadership Development

Employment Type: Part Time, Non-Exempt

Program Schedule: I Can Excel – (Monday- Friday 4:30-6:30pm)

Our mission is to empower girls from underserved communities, aged 6 to 18, by providing them with access to innovative educational and wellness programs that foster confidence, leadership, and academic success. We envision a future where every student, irrespective of their socio-economic background, acquires essential academic, social, and leadership skills to realize their aspirations.

Role Summary: The Enrichment Teacher will be an integral part of the I Can Excel Program, operating under the guidance of the Vice President of Education and Leadership Development. This role involves delivering a curriculum designed to broaden each student's knowledge base, enhance critical thinking abilities, and stimulate curiosity in practical areas applicable throughout their lives.

We believe in a hands-on approach to education, where students actively engage in the learning process. Our educators impart skills that encourage critical thinking, effective self-expression, and exploration of the significant impact they can have on their communities. The curriculum at FIGURE SKATING IN HARLEM is built around purposeful activities that enrich students' knowledge and skills, driving their curiosity to learn more about their influence and the broader world.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate student-centered learning that promotes exploration, discovery, and the creation of high-quality work.
  • Collect and analyze data on student performance to tailor the learning environment and instructional methods to meet diverse learner needs.
  • Engage all students in the learning process at their individual levels, fostering their voices in discussions and choices regarding their impact projects.
  • Encourage curiosity and unlock each learner's potential.
  • Deliver and instruct curriculum in areas such as life skills, communication/debate, STEAM, entrepreneurship/innovation, or self-advocacy.
  • Design and implement project-based learning experiences aligned with the subject curriculum.
  • Manage classroom dynamics of approximately students in a safe and respectful environment.
  • Monitor, assess, and track student progress effectively.
  • Establish and maintain a positive classroom culture through effective management strategies.
  • Promote positive student behavior that supports character development.
  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with students and their families.
  • Uphold the values and principles of youth development as espoused by FIGURE SKATING IN HARLEM.

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of culturally relevant pedagogy and teaching through a social justice perspective.
  • Experience in teaching, tutoring, or mentoring youth.
  • Exhibit professionalism, creativity, innovation, and adaptability.
  • Commitment to the entire program duration.
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

Compensation: $45 - $60/hour for instructional duties, $30/hour for academic-related training.
