The role of Manager of Risk Management in Commercial Banking is essential for integrating specialized risk and control professionals within the First Line Units. These professionals are tasked with facilitating compliance with the responsibilities outlined in the Risk Management Framework, enhancing risk awareness, and sharing best practices related to controls with colleagues in Commercial Banking. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting Risk and Control Self-assessments across all Commercial lines of business to identify and evaluate current and emerging risks.
  • Managing issue identification and remediation, including the self-reporting of inadequate controls.
  • Overseeing and monitoring risk metrics specific to the line of business.
  • Documenting and reporting on risk acceptances.
  • Providing training and communication related to risk and controls.
  • Executing and supporting control testing activities.
Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the execution, quality assurance, and reporting of the enterprise risk program.
  • Support and develop the participation of Commercial Banking in Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), focusing on process definition, control identification, procedural completeness, risk rating, and quality control opportunities.
  • Drive effective Issue Management protocols within Commercial Banking, ensuring proper documentation, risk rating, and timely remediation actions.
  • Lead the execution of the SOX control program, ensuring controls are documented, understood by control owners, executed with quality, and managed effectively.
  • Participate in the creation, collection, and reporting of various risk, control, and performance metrics related to Commercial Banking.
  • Perform and document thorough testing across a range of control activities and communicate results to all stakeholders.
  • Develop action plans with senior leaders to address any identified deficiencies.
  • Assist in preparing reports for senior management and executive committees regarding risk program outcomes, unmitigated risks, and strategies for mitigation, as well as support regulatory examination preparations.
  • Maintain knowledge of current and emerging business risks.
  • Provide support for special projects and initiatives as necessary.
Required Skills, Education, and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
  • Experience in operational risk management, enterprise risk management, or auditing is essential; project management and banking experience are preferred.
  • Ability to manage and execute multiple complex projects within established timelines is required.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and the ability to influence and build relationships across the organization.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar risk and control function, whether in the first, second, or third line of defense.
  • Significant experience in Commercial Banking Risk or a related financial services sector is essential.
  • Experience with SOX testing is advantageous.
The estimated salary range for this position is $80,000 to $100,000 USD. Actual salary may vary based on job-related factors including knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This position is also eligible for incentive compensation.
