About the Team
The Global Policy & Advocacy (GPA) division aims to influence public policy discussions that impact our mission, garner support for our key program and policy objectives, and cultivate partnerships that further our goals on both national and international levels. Recognizing that our resources alone cannot address the challenges we face, GPA also champions advocacy initiatives that engage a wide range of stakeholders and encourage innovative solutions to meet our program objectives. We collaborate closely with grantees and colleagues across various programs to create an environment where everyone can thrive.
The Program Advocacy and Communications team collaborates with program teams and other GPA divisions to fulfill their policy and financial objectives by:
• Crafting and executing advocacy and communication strategies.
• Utilizing leadership and organizational voice to advance advocacy initiatives.
• Managing a grant portfolio aimed at achieving advocacy results.
• Engaging with sector leaders, influencers, media, and government representatives to secure advocacy outcomes.
• Leading targeted communications to support advocacy efforts.
• Formulating policy recommendations in collaboration with programmatic and regional offices.
Your Role
The Senior Program Officer (SPO) will act as the primary strategist for Malaria advocacy efforts. You will lead initiatives in collaboration with the PAC Malaria team and other foundation teams to refine, implement, and assess advocacy and communication strategies that align with our Malaria objectives. This role involves engaging with policy and financing agencies on a global scale, particularly in regions such as Sub-Saharan Africa, South-East Asia, and Latin America. You will support the foundation's Malaria strategies and collaborate across various program and strategy teams focused on research and development for vector control, malaria prevention, treatment, and equitable delivery of interventions in high-burden countries.
You will be part of the PAC Infectious Diseases team, which also oversees advocacy for other diseases and will allocate a portion of your time to broader advocacy efforts. You will also be responsible for participating in individual and group learning initiatives to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion within the foundation and its work.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the PAC Malaria team and programmatic teams to update, implement, and evaluate strategies that ensure sustainability and impact.
- Develop and manage a portfolio of investments, conducting research to strengthen recommendations and overseeing budgetary processes.
- Create execution plans aligned with Malaria advocacy strategies.
- Lead complex partnerships and advocacy campaigns, building relationships within the Malaria community.
- Act as the initiative lead for Malaria advocacy initiatives, linking them to broader health and development priorities.
- Serve as a contact point for strategy and portfolio management for internal and external partners.
- Represent the organization at conferences and meetings, delivering presentations and engaging with stakeholders.
- Identify risks at the portfolio level and develop mitigation strategies.
- Work collaboratively with peers to ensure consistency in portfolio management.
- Consult with partners to maximize project impact and facilitate learning.
- Produce clear and insightful reports and briefings on Malaria and related issues for leadership.
- Engage in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to ensure progress towards our commitments.
- Participate in cross-team initiatives to enhance integration and impact.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in public policy, international relations, public health, or a related field with over 10 years of senior-level experience in advocacy strategies.
- Understanding of advocacy's role in raising awareness of global health issues and shaping support.
- Experience in global advocacy, particularly in high-burden regions.
- Knowledge of Malaria epidemics and global health networks.
- Experience in resource mobilization strategies is preferred.
- Familiarity with bilateral and multilateral institutions and their funding mechanisms.
- Proven ability to influence and build collaborative relationships.
- Strong project and team leadership skills.
- Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences.
- Experience managing grants and complex projects related to policy initiatives.
