Position Overview:

Colliers Engineering & Design is in search of a Senior Project Accountant to enhance our team. The Senior Project Accountant will collaborate closely with project managers and accounting personnel to deliver financial support and analysis. This role encompasses the examination and reconciliation of billing and revenue discrepancies, executing revenue recognition tasks for month-end closures, and partnering with project leadership to oversee and budget projects. Additionally, this position may involve supervising project accounting billing staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and document project billing and revenue discrepancies, assisting project managers in resolving issues.
  • Research and document Work In Progress (WIP) versus unbilled variances, ensuring timely processing of billings.
  • Manage monthly revenue recognition for assigned projects, including investigation, documentation, and resolution of any issues.
  • Assist in the setup of complex projects and tasks within our accounting software.
  • Verify project setups in compliance with contractual agreements.
  • Prepare draft invoices for Project Managers and collaborate to implement necessary adjustments, focusing on highly complex projects.
  • Contract billing may involve various terms including time & material, cost-plus fixed fee, lump sum, and fixed unit.
  • Review subconsultant invoices for compliance with project contractual terms and accurate coding.
  • Finalize and submit invoices to clients, which may require preparing additional documentation and expense backups.
  • Work alongside Project Managers to manage and report on the financial status of their projects.
  • Support budgeting and pricing efforts for projects.
  • Assist with forecasting, backlog, and burn rate analysis.
  • Provide support for staff utilization analysis.
  • Conduct project close-out analysis.
  • Review complex client invoices for accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist in compiling information for internal and external audits as required.
  • Train other staff members as needed.
  • May include supervision of project accounting personnel.
  • Perform additional accounting tasks or special projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance.
  • Associate's Degree with relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience performing Project Accountant II duties with demonstrated proficiency in essential job functions.
  • Experience in the Architectural/Engineering/Construction (A/E/C) industry is preferred.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding English for job-related communications and instructions.

Compensation: $66,000 - $91,000, dependent on qualifications.
