About the Position

We are seeking an experienced fundraising professional to join our team as the first-ever Director of Development. In this key leadership position, you will be responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive annual fundraising plan that ensures Chicago Debates has the necessary resources to meet its strategic priorities.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in diversifying, strengthening, and increasing philanthropic contributions from individual, corporate, and foundation donors. You will work closely with our Board and staff leadership to foster donor engagement and maximize philanthropic investment in our organization's mission and programs.

The Director of Development will report directly to our Executive Director, Dr. Toinette Gunn. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and relationship-focused professional to make a meaningful impact in the lives of Chicago youth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive annual fundraising plan that aligns with the organization's strategic priorities
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation donors to secure major gifts
  • Work collaboratively with Board and staff leadership to identify and pursue new funding opportunities
  • Maintain accurate records of donations and donor interactions using our database system
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., nonprofit management, marketing, communications)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in fundraising or a related field, preferably in a nonprofit setting
  • Demonstrated success in securing major gifts from individual, corporate, and foundation donors
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills
Benefits:
  • A competitive salary range of $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience
