Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Registered Nurse to oversee intricate clinical operations within a facility responsible for individuals detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Registered Nurses within the IHSC function in a collaborative setting, delivering ambulatory, emergency, mental health, and infirmary care. Key responsibilities include conducting intake screenings and physical examinations to identify conditions that require further referral or treatment, managing common acute issues according to nursing guidelines, performing nursing rounds for patients in infirmary care and segregated housing, and coordinating the activities of their assigned shift.

Key Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse:

  • Deliver direct patient care within the discipline's Scope of Practice, adhering to current accepted practices, licensure, certification, credentialing, and competencies.
  • Conduct sick calls, assessing and treating acute issues using nursing protocols, and referring patients to advanced practice providers, physicians, behavioral health providers, or dentists as necessary.
  • Perform physical examinations utilizing established tools to gather subjective and objective data, referring patients to medical, dental, or behavioral health providers as appropriate.
  • Provide clinical supervision to Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurses and unlicensed assistive personnel as assigned.
  • Administer medications as prescribed, utilizing various routes including oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous, topical, and ophthalmic.
  • Conduct prescreening and intake assessments for newly arrived patients, employing established tools to gather necessary data and referring abnormal findings to appropriate providers.
  • Perform various treatments such as wound care, vital sign assessments, and electrocardiograms as ordered by medical, dental, or behavioral health providers.
  • Collect laboratory specimens and conduct point-of-care testing or prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, taking appropriate actions based on lab results.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, providing emergency care to stabilize patients and prevent deterioration, and facilitating transfers to appropriate care levels.
  • May be required to participate in involuntary, court-ordered care.

Qualifications

  • Possess a current, full, and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice or a compact state that permits practice in the state of duty.
  • This position does not necessitate privileging by IHSC.
  • Maintain BLS for Healthcare Providers certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Preferred credentials include Certified Correctional Health Professional, Certified Correctional Health Professional Registered Nurse, or Certified Corrections Nurse, though not required.
