We are seeking a dedicated Maternity Services Technician to join our Birthing Suite team. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing nursing care and surgical assistance within the maternity services department. This includes delivering essential patient care focused on comfort, hygiene, data collection, and documentation. Your activities will adhere to established standards of obstetrical and operating room practices, performed within your scope of education, training, and experience. As a Maternity Services Technician, you will stay updated on the latest trends in the operating room, including innovative products, procedures, and techniques used by physicians. You will provide both direct and indirect patient care for neonates and female patients under the direct oversight of a Registered Nurse. Additionally, you will support patient care, maintain the nursing unit, assist with housekeeping and dietary tasks, and provide clerical support for the nursing unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Obstetrical Team during various procedures.
  • Act as a scrub technician during Cesarean Sections, Vaginal deliveries, and other surgical interventions.
  • Ensure delivery rooms are well-prepared and stocked with necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate sponge and instrument counts during obstetrical procedures.
  • Anticipate the needs of physicians during procedures.
  • Establish and maintain a sterile environment.
  • Properly dispose of sharps and hazardous materials.
  • Assist in terminal cleaning and room turnover procedures.
  • Support special unit procedures, such as vacuum deliveries.
  • Collect and handle specimens according to established protocols.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to patient call lights and requests.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care.
Education Requirements
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • Certification as a surgical technologist is preferred.
  • Must complete birth registrar and notary requirements within six months of hire.
Experience Requirements
  • Preferred one year of hospital experience as a Surgical Scrub or LPN.
Skill Requirements
  • Proficient knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Strong customer service skills, including effective listening.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and lifting patients or equipment up to 50 pounds.
