Position Summary

At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Senior Laboratory Research Technician plays a crucial role in supporting scientists with various scientific investigations, development, and clinical tasks that vary in complexity.

This position involves assisting in the setup, operation, and upkeep of laboratory instruments and equipment, overseeing experiments, making observations, and accurately recording results. Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, calibrate, clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain supplies and workspaces, including managing supply orders in collaboration with Purchasing.
  • Conduct standardized biological, microbiological, or biochemical tests and laboratory analyses, including sample collection from various organic substances.
  • Isolate, identify, and prepare specimens for examination.
  • Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and prepare reports and summaries, including grant applications and presentations.
  • Participate in the grant application process and manuscript preparation as necessary.
  • Maintain a detailed laboratory notebook documenting all work-related activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
  • Stay informed about relevant literature and research publications to enhance intellectual engagement.
  • May be involved in developing and refining standard operating procedures.
  • Utilize computers and advanced technology to perform work duties effectively.
  • Monitor laboratory budgets as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role may involve independent decision-making regarding methods and procedures for special assignments and coordinating activities of other staff members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in biology or chemistry is preferred.
  • A minimum of 4-6 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex issues creatively and effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex data and situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse faculty and staff.
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
