The faculty in MBM are united by a common interest in the biology of microbes (bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites) and the effects of microbes on human and animal hosts.Program investigators direct detailed studies of pathogenic bacteria, viruses, fungi and eukaryotic parasites.Research topics include structural analysis of virus entry, viral evolution, viral oncogenes, intracellular bacterial pathogens, microorganisms that cause diarrheal illness and pneumonia, intracellular signaling, pathogen adhesion, genetic determinants involved in susceptibility to infection, vaccine development, and identification of novel antimicrobial agents.Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, maintaining cell lines, generating viral stocks, molecular cloning, mutagenesis, IP mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, protein detection using SDS-PAGE and western blotting, accurate record keeping, and assisting principal investigator with lab management tasks.The research technician will also be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, organizing and maintaining reagents, supplies, and records, and interacting with other lab members in an inclusive and supportive laboratory environment.Perform techniques such as tissue culture, molecular cloning, viral titers, western blot, flow cytometry, etc.Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field is preferred.Previous research laboratory experience using microbiology and/or molecular biology techniques is highly preferred.
