Position Summary

At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Senior Laboratory Research Technician plays a crucial role in supporting scientists with various scientific investigations, development, and clinical tasks that vary in complexity.

This position involves assisting in the setup, operation, and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, as well as monitoring experiments, making observations, and accurately recording results. Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, calibrate, clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain supplies and work areas, including potential responsibility for ordering supplies in collaboration with Purchasing.
  • Conduct standardized biological, microbiological, or biochemical tests and laboratory analyses, including the collection of samples from organic substances.
  • Isolate, identify, and prepare specimens for examination.
  • Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and compile reports and summaries of findings, including grant preparation and presentations.
  • Participate in formal and informal presentations of results to staff.
  • Maintain a detailed notebook of all work-related activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
  • Stay updated with relevant literature and research publications.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of standard operating procedures.
  • Utilize computers and high-technology applications to perform work duties.
  • May involve monitoring laboratory budgets and overseeing advanced experiments.
Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably in biology or chemistry, with a minimum of 4-6 years of relevant experience. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience, utilizing technical concepts and institutional objectives to creatively resolve complex issues.

Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, exercising judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining results, and networking with key contacts outside their area of expertise.

Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of faculty and staff. Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks are critical.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Preferred knowledge of biological, chemical, or medical information and techniques. Strong analytical and logical problem-solving abilities are necessary.
