Overview:

In the capacity of a Surgical Support Specialist, you will operate under the general oversight of the Nurse Manager and the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Your primary role will be to assist in promoting efficient patient flow and ensuring safe patient care within the surgical unit.

CHRISTUS Health is dedicated to providing exceptional surgical and medical services. Our facility is designed to cater to the healthcare needs of our community, offering a comprehensive range of medical and surgical services including pediatrics, obstetrics, skilled nursing, emergency care, and advanced diagnostic imaging. Our hospital also features a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, allowing mothers to stay close to their recovering newborns.

Key Responsibilities:


• Uphold the standards of the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

• Safely transport patients and equipment while adhering to standard precautions.

• Prepare and sanitize beds, stretchers, and wheelchairs for patient transfers.

• Interact with staff, patients, families, and visitors in a friendly and approachable manner, providing necessary information and assistance.

• Aid in surgical patient positioning, transfers, and cast application/removal under the guidance of the RN.

• Deliver and retrieve items across departments, responding promptly to requests and assignments.

• Support nursing staff in maintaining high standards of care by ensuring timely responses to patient needs.

• Restock supplies, maintain cleanliness of refrigerators, and ensure orderly equipment storage.

• Verify that patient transfer and transport equipment is in proper working condition.

• Act as an integral member of the surgical team.

• Demonstrate the ability to perform assigned tasks in a manner that meets the specific needs of the patient population served.

• Adapt assessment and service methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, and developmental needs of each patient served.

Qualifications:

A. Education/Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.

B. Experience

  • Preferred: 1 year of experience in a hospital environment.

C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • BLS certification is required.
