The UHealth system at the University of Miami presents an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Staff Pharmacist at our LENNAR location.
POSITION SUMMARY:
- Oversight of Intravenous Admixture: Staff Pharmacists are responsible for monitoring and supervising the centralized intravenous admixture program, focusing on the preparation and oversight of chemotherapeutic and investigational intravenous therapies. They ensure the precise and efficient preparation and delivery of total parenteral nutrition solutions, injectable chemotherapy, antibiotics, and other intravenous medications. Patient profiles and new orders are thoroughly reviewed to prevent drug interactions and contraindications. (30%)
- Unit-Dose Drug Distribution: Staff Pharmacists oversee the unit-dose drug distribution program, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of unit-dose medications and controlled substances to hospital inpatients. They maintain appropriate records and inventory for all medications as required. Emergency drug stocks in patient care areas are filled promptly. Staff Pharmacists also compound and dispense specialized medications not readily available from manufacturers. (0%)
- Drug Information Provision: Staff Pharmacists provide current and comprehensive drug information to healthcare professionals and patients, covering new medications, dosage requirements, indications, contraindications, pharmacology, side effects, adverse reactions, precautions, and suitable formulary agents for specific therapies. (5%)
- Outpatient Prescription Management: Staff Pharmacists supervise the accurate and efficient dispensing of outpatient prescriptions for discharge, day surgery, outpatient clinics, and employee patients. (5%)
- Effective Communication: Staff Pharmacists communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, purchasing technicians, pharmacy technicians, and other hospital personnel, promoting rational drug therapy. They also train and supervise technical staff members, externs, and interns in established policies and procedures. (10%)
- Inspection and Compliance: Staff Pharmacists or their designee inspect nursing units and clinics to ensure proper storage and distribution of patient floor stock, controlled drugs, and emergency medications. (2%)
- Compounding Responsibilities: Staff Pharmacists compound medications by interpreting prescriptions or vouchers, calculating dosages, and following established pharmaceutical techniques. They review compounding work completed by subordinate pharmacists, externs, interns, and pharmacy technicians. (1%)
- Controlled Substance Management: Staff Pharmacists dispense controlled substances in accordance with strict security protocols, maintaining accurate control and inventory records. They assist in periodic audits of controlled substances at nursing stations and in Pyxis units. (2%)
- Quality Improvement Participation: Staff Pharmacists engage in the drug use evaluation process and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. (10%)
- Additional Duties: Staff Pharmacists perform all other job-related responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy Services or their designee. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications:
- Current licensure in good standing in the State of Florida and a degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy is required.
- PharmD is mandatory; consideration will be given to candidates who have maintained their licenses active/current under prior regulations, including international candidates with a Florida license.
- A minimum of one year of hospital experience is required.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and computer skills are essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with all levels of staff and physicians.
