This role entails overseeing controls engineering project specifications that include control system architecture, DCS/PLC programming, control panel creation, instrumentation, testing support, and commissioning assistance.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

The ideal candidate must exhibit strong organizational skills, technical proficiency, effective communication abilities, and experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary setting while engaging with engineers, designers, and drafters.
Design, develop, and implement DCS/PLC control systems (both software and hardware) to fulfill process requirements while adhering to local or governmental design and implementation codes.
Possess knowledge of control panel and system design standards and regulatory practices.
Create documentation that outlines control configurations and designs.

Documentation includes:
Operational theory/description, comprehensive control system design documentation, and system implementation/acceptance testing plans.
Collaborate with facility design to optimize panel placement, minimizing voltage drop and enhancing panel maintenance.
Conduct essential system design calculations/analyses: short circuit protection, harmonics, noise mitigation, power consumption, load flow, protective relay/circuit design, ground fault monitoring, and safety system implementation (SIL rating).
Analyze system designs for hazard analysis development and risk mitigation.
Implement control system redundancy to reduce single points of failure.
Develop schematics for control system configurations, wiring, network layouts, and equipment panel layouts using AutoCAD.
Assist with the initial start-up and troubleshooting of integrated systems and the creation of system documentation.
This position involves working on automation and control system integration projects for clients across various sectors.
Act as the technical lead on projects, mentoring junior engineers, technicians, and contractors.
Take on project management responsibilities for smaller initiatives ranging from $50k to $250k.

This includes but is not limited to:
Formulating and executing implementation strategies for projects.
Delegating tasks to ensure project timelines are met.
Ensuring all project team members comprehend the scope of responsibilities.
Creating schedules that align with project and client requirements.
Monitoring project progress and documenting any changes.
Managing all procurement and subcontractor needs.
Overseeing cost development and proposing changes to contract scopes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education - Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Experience - A minimum of 5 years in relevant fields is preferred:
Ethernet-based control systems, safety systems, instrumentation, components, logic programming, and DCS programming (e.g., DeltaV, Experion, 800xA).
Experience with instrumentation and controls/PLC system design (e.g., Allen Bradley, Modicon, Siemens) is essential.
Familiarity with AutoCAD is also advantageous.

Key Competencies -
Understanding of contract documents and specifications.
Ability to gather field data and accurately document findings.
Capability to perform system design functions. Skills in planning, customer focus, timely decision-making, informing, organizing, priority setting, and problem-solving.
Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office applications is required.

TRAVEL: Willingness to travel up to 35%.

Visual acuity, color perception, auditory skills, clear speech, manual dexterity, driving, lifting, climbing, ability to mount and dismount equipment, pushing, and pulling.
