Purchasing Manager Job Description

The Purchasing Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless procurement of materials, supplies, equipment, and services for McKee Homes. This position requires a strategic thinker who can build strong relationships with trade partners, vendors, and internal stakeholders to drive process improvement and quality performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive purchasing strategy that aligns with the company's goals and objectives.
  • Negotiate prices and contracts with suppliers to ensure optimal costs and quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and develop needs and requirements for equipment, materials, and products.
  • Assess market conditions and predict future availability of materials to inform procurement decisions.
  • Prepare and present market conditions and merchandise cost reports to stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and approve conditions for issuing and awarding bids, ensuring quality, timeliness, and price.
  • Research and identify potential trade partners, assessing their capabilities and readiness for future growth and business plan expectations.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with trade partners, resolving grievances and ensuring effective communication.
  • Implement and maintain purchasing and recordkeeping systems to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Represent the company in negotiations with suppliers, driving value-engineering efforts to reduce costs.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure internal goals and deadlines are met, communicating product changes to sales, construction, and trade partners.
  • Assist in reviewing house budgets to verify accurate base house and margin costs.
  • Incorporate regular field time to understand trade performance and opportunities for improvement.
  • Validate architectural plans and ensure scopes of work are updated quarterly.
  • Ensure new communities are properly prepared for bid, with accurate setup in the system prior to production homes.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, or Accounting.
  • Finance or Accounting work experience strongly preferred.
  • Home-building industry experience preferred but not required.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Work Environment:

This position operates in a professional office environment, utilizing standard office equipment and online systems. The Purchasing Manager must exercise initiative and meet objectives with minimal supervision.
