Fleet Maintenance Superintendent Job Summary

This position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of the town's vehicle and equipment fleet.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prioritize and schedule repairs and maintenance for vehicles and equipment.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
  • Manage equipment operating and preventive maintenance records.
  • Oversee the equipment and parts inventory.
  • Act as the department's purchasing agent, obtaining quotes and inspecting products for quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in preparing the division's annual operating budget and monitor expenditures.
  • Determine the safety and dependability of vehicles and equipment, and assist in preparing bid specifications for new department vehicles and equipment.
  • Develop and manage the ongoing preventative maintenance of town vehicles and equipment, performing and overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.
  • Purchase fuel for town use and prepare fuel billing for other departments.
  • Hire, train, assign, direct, supervise, evaluate, and discipline personnel.
  • Maintain the fuel inventory and management system, monitoring fuel usage.
  • Direct the cleaning and maintenance of the shop facility and equipment.
  • Coordinate the proper disposal of universal/hazardous liquid wastes within the Public Works Department.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to the occupational field.
  • Three to five years of related experience.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of New Hampshire for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Town policies and procedures, including personnel and purchasing procedures.
  • Budget management practices.
  • Computers and job-related software programs.
  • Management and supervisory principles and practices.
  • Mechanical functioning of a variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Record-keeping systems.
  • Underground storage tank operation and maintenance guidelines.
  • Management and supervision.

  • Performing mechanical preventive and corrective procedures.
  • Developing and writing vehicle and equipment specifications.
  • Prioritizing and planning.
