Job Description

At Byrne Dewitt LLC, we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Dairy Quality Control Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our quality assurance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety in our dairy products.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Receive and test incoming raw dairy and cream trucks, as well as bulk sugars and oils, to ensure compliance with FDA, NYS regulations, and Byrne Dairy standards.
  2. Monitor silos for testing and proper rotation, coordinating with shift managers/supervisors as needed.
  3. Maintain the cleanliness of alcove rooms, CIP room, tanker bays, and raw lab, adhering to cleaning checklists.
  4. Verify, inspect, and maintain the cleanliness of tankers, silos, tanks, and lines, as well as clean and maintain floor drains in tanker bays and alcove rooms.
  5. Disassemble and assemble sanitary lines and CIP equipment, and monitor CIP systems for effective communication with processing.
  6. Maintain raw material records in accordance with Byrne procedures and regulatory requirements.
  7. Monitor and ensure quality standards set by the company for all products being received and tested.
  8. Identify and label any foreign materials found during unloading or when inspecting in-line screens, and report to QA Management.
  9. Maintain the Receiving Log for the shift worked.
  10. Assist and maintain professionalism with tanker drivers at all times.
  11. Maintain communication between additional departments, including maintenance, processing, scheduling, and production, and promote excellent customer service with all customers.
  12. Demonstrate the ability to operate the internal HMI system.
  13. Cover breaks and lunches and other staffing needs as assigned by their supervisor/lead.
  14. Compliant with all legal requirements concerning dairy processing and safety on their assigned shift and reports concerning their supervisor/lead.
  15. Works in a safe manner and reports safety concerns promptly to their supervisor/lead and takes corrective actions as necessary to ensure a safe environment.
  16. Responsible for reporting food safety problems and initiating action and for supporting SQF by maintaining food safety and food quality.
  17. Ensures work areas are sanitary and strictly adhere to sanitation practices and requirements.

Requirements:

  1. A minimum of GED or High School Diploma is required; Associates degree in chemistry, biology, food science, or ag-tech science preferred.
  2. 6 months – 2 years of manufacturing/machine operation experience in dairy/food industry preferred.
  3. SQF or similar quality systems experience preferred.

Work Schedule:

  1. Requires morning, afternoon, and overnight availability any day of the week based on the assigned shift.
  2. Requests to be scheduled off for a specific day require advance notification and approval by the Supervisor/Manager.
  3. Hourly: Generally scheduled for 36-48 hours/week on a rotating schedule (12-hour shifts); more hours may be required based on the needs of the business.

Environmental Concerns:

  1. Normally protected from weather and temperature changes, possible exposure to hot cold wet, humid, or windy weather conditions does exist.
  2. May be subject to exposure to ingredients used in the manufacture of food products including allergens.
  3. May be subject to exposure to chemicals involved in the manufacture and sanitation of a food processing facility.

Physical Job Requirements:

  1. Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility including but not limited to office, production, and warehouse environments. Including the outside perimeter of the building.
  2. Able to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions.
  3. Stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift with meal break.
  4. Physically able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and move objects exceeding 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations.
  5. Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions.

Compensation:

A reasonable estimate of the current range is $21.50 to $29.00.
