Job Title: Laboratory Technician

Job Summary:

The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for conducting various tests and analyses to ensure the quality and safety of dairy products. This role will involve working in a laboratory setting, performing tasks such as product testing, quality control, and data analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct product testing and quality control to ensure compliance with FDA, NYS regulations, and Byrne Dairy standards.
  2. Perform microbiological analyses, chemical analyses, and sensory testing as required by the laboratory and operations schedules.
  3. Release compliant products from hold on the computerized inventory management system.
  4. Inspect and verify the sanitary condition of processing lines/fillers/tanks/overall areas, including conducting ATP swabbing and visual inspections.
  5. Validate vitamin additions and batching sheets for the processing departments.
  6. Maintain cleanliness of work areas and equipment.
  7. Communicate openly to other members of the Quality Control Team and plant personnel.
  8. Log and send out COAs (Certificate of Analysis) as testing is completed.
  9. Complete the Titratable Acidity (TA) test using all methods.
  10. Conduct and report various product tests: Including allergen, sterile sampling, cryoscope, butterfat, solids, and sterility testing.
  11. Verify and document product information: Ensure correct labeling, update logs, and use LIMS for testing verification.
  12. Perform additional quality assurance tasks: Conduct EQA and shelf life sensory testing, and attend annual training.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum of GED or High School diploma is required.
  2. Associates degree in dairy/food sciences or equivalent is highly preferred.
  3. 1-2 years experience in a similar food industry lab setting is highly preferred.

Work Environment:

The Laboratory Technician will work in a laboratory setting, with exposure to ingredients used in the manufacture of dairy products, including allergens. The work environment will be clean and well-maintained, with proper personal protective equipment provided.

Physical Job Requirements:

The Laboratory Technician will be required to stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift with a meal break. The ability to move throughout all areas of the facility, including the outside perimeter, is also required.

Work Schedule:

The Laboratory Technician will be required to work a variety of shifts, including morning, afternoon, and overnight availability any day of the week based on the assigned shift.
