Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Lab Technician to join our team at Byrne Dairy. As a key member of our quality control team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety in our dairy products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform laboratory testing and analysis to ensure compliance with FDA, NYS regulations, and company standards.
  • Conduct product testing, including microbiological, chemical, and sensory testing.
  • Release compliant products from hold on the computerized inventory management system.
  • Inspect and verify the sanitary condition of processing lines, fillers, tanks, and overall areas.
  • Validate vitamin additions and batching sheets for the processing departments.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas and equipment.
  • Communicate openly with other members of the Quality Control Team and plant personnel.
  • Conduct bacteria/shelf-life testing of fresh and stressed samples.
  • Maintain laboratory logbook and Hold/Disposition Log for the shift worked.
  • Log and send out COAs (Certificate of Analysis) as testing is completed.
Requirements
  • Minimum of GED or High School diploma required.
  • Associates degree in dairy/food sciences or equivalent highly preferred.
  • 1-2 years experience in a similar food industry lab setting highly preferred.
Work Environment

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced laboratory environment, with a focus on quality and safety. The work schedule will require morning, afternoon, and overnight availability, with a 48-hour and 36-hour alternating week schedule.

The candidate will be exposed to various ingredients used in the manufacture of food products, including allergens, and may be subject to exposure to chemicals involved in the manufacture and sanitation of a food processing facility.

The physical demands of the job include standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, crouching, handling, and moving items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
