Job Summary

The City of Ouray is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Chief of Police to lead its Police Department. As a key member of the city's leadership team, the Chief will be responsible for the overall direction and leadership of the department, including officer recruitment and retention, operations, training, investigations, community relations, and records management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Police Department
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure effective law enforcement and community policing
  • Oversee the recruitment and retention of police officers and other department staff
  • Manage the department budget and ensure fiscal responsibility
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with the community, elected officials, and other stakeholders
  • Stay up-to-date with current laws, ordinances, and best practices in law enforcement
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in police science, criminal justice, criminology, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of law enforcement experience, with 4 years in a supervisory capacity
  • Master's degree or attendance at the FBI National Academy or similar leadership program a plus
  • Valid Colorado driver's license and Colorado P.O.S.T. certification
Benefits
