Senior Financial Consultant

Job Overview
As a Senior Financial Consultant, you will engage in comprehensive financial assessments and reconciliation of discrepancies within research adjustment reports.

Your role will involve conducting monthly evaluations of individual chart field validation discrepancies and collaborating with relevant departmental personnel to rectify and update the clinical trial management system.

You will also be responsible for processing non-personnel corrective journal entries related to research adjustments.
In addition, you will manage clinical research billing hold charge reports and implement corrections through the EMR system.
You will assist in audit evaluations of clinical research and address financial discrepancies concerning subjects via the EMR system.
Acting as a backup for the study team, you will perform Biller Reviews of clinical research billing.
You will ensure that the financial aspects of clinical research trials comply with state and federal regulations, including Medicare & Medicaid Services guidelines.
Staying informed on changes in healthcare compliance standards, you will adapt internal processes accordingly.
You will respond to inquiries and provide guidance on healthcare compliance issues.
Conducting departmental audits as necessary will also be part of your responsibilities.
You will assist with upgrades to the clinical trial management system, ensuring that financial functionalities operate as intended.
Furthermore, you will develop new processes and create ad-hoc training materials.
Participation in weekly staff meetings and office hours will be expected to facilitate collaboration.

Problem-Solving Skills

The Senior Financial Consultant possesses the autonomy to determine the appropriate type and nature of analysis required to achieve desired outcomes, including data collection methods, analysis techniques, presentation formats, and report structures.

Key challenges in this role include organizing and prioritizing multiple projects, identifying the best course of action or necessary resources to complete tasks, obtaining valid data, and producing clear and comprehensible reports that accurately reflect the sought-after information.

The Senior Financial Consultant must accurately interpret regulations to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and other requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and interpret management information and various financial reports.
  • Analyze financial documents, statistical data, and historical records, presenting findings to management.
  • Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of cost accounting systems.
  • Audit accounting systems, reconcile data, and resolve technical issues or recommend solutions as necessary.
  • Analyze trends and potential implications.
  • Recommend and implement enhancements affecting accounting systems and departmental operations.
  • May assist in preparing and monitoring departmental budgets.
  • May provide training on financial matters or guidance to junior staff.

Work Environment
The work environment is primarily office-based, with a frequency of nearly continuous engagement in office activities.

Physical Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience; one year of education may substitute for two years of related work experience) is required, along with two years of relevant experience.

Additionally, a thorough understanding of established accounting principles and practices, proficiency in spreadsheets and databases, knowledge of statistics, and demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and effective communication skills are essential.

An advanced degree, such as a Master's in Business Administration, is preferred. Certain roles may necessitate familiarity with hospital billing systems and regulations related to Medicare and insurance reimbursement.

Preferences
Epic Research Module Certification is required to be obtained within 6-9 months of hire. Familiarity with Ambulatory Essentials or Professional Billing and Claims within 9 months of employment is preferred.
2-3 years of recent experience in clinical billing, finance, accounting, or coding (CPT/ICD-10) is preferred, especially in a research context.
A minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical research environment is required.
Experience with Electronic Medical Records systems and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products are essential.

Required:
Clinical Trial Billing Compliance certification is required or must be obtained within 9 months of employment.

This role involves conducting complex work independently with significant latitude for judgment. You will prepare financial reports, engage in special projects, and provide financial analysis to all management levels.
