IT Systems Specialist

Location: Onsite

Overview

The IT Systems Specialist plays a crucial role in managing the organization's information technology infrastructure, ensuring the reliable operation of IT systems, networks, and applications. This position involves planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing all network software and communication links. The specialist will also address and resolve end-user software and connectivity issues promptly while providing training to peers and end-users as necessary. Familiarity with various industry concepts, practices, and procedures is essential for this role.

Key Qualifications

  • Preferred experience with Citrix technologies.
  • Proficient in Active Directory, Azure, and Exchange.
  • Experience managing Office 365, SharePoint Online, and Exchange Online is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of third-party remote access tools for troubleshooting remote incidents.
  • Understanding of VPN and other remote access solutions.

Primary Responsibilities

The following duties represent the core tasks performed regularly; additional responsibilities may be assigned:

  • Administer and maintain computer networks and related environments, including hardware, systems software, and applications.
  • Conduct data backups and implement disaster recovery strategies.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues, replacing defective components as necessary.
  • Configure and maintain email applications and antivirus software.
  • Monitor computer systems and networks to ensure optimal performance and coordinate access.
  • Evaluate network performance and recommend adjustments for future improvements.
  • Implement network security measures to safeguard data and hardware.
  • Analyze performance records to identify repair or replacement needs.
  • Consult with end-users to resolve existing system challenges.
  • Propose enhancements to systems and network configurations, determining necessary hardware or software.
  • Design, configure, and test computer hardware and software systems.
  • Perform routine network operations and maintain control records.
  • Load software and manage printer supplies.
  • Educate users on system operation and maintenance.
  • Maintain logs related to network functions and repairs.
  • Gather data on customer needs to inform system and network requirements.
  • Coordinate with vendors and internal personnel for procurement.
  • Provide technical support for voice services and telecom systems.
  • Maintain an inventory of parts for emergency repairs.
  • Research and recommend new technologies based on industry trends.
  • Support Help Desk and Systems Administrators at various levels.
  • Deliver desktop support, including hardware purchasing, setup, and troubleshooting.
  • Manage the Exchange environment and published applications.
  • Provision physical and virtual servers to meet operational demands.
  • Administer basic firewall, switching, and routing tasks.
  • Oversee SCCM/SCOM environments, including software distribution and patch management.
  • Conduct security analyses of software components.
  • Assist system administrators and end-users across departments.
  • Support infrastructure maintenance and operations.
  • Engage with vendors and contractors with managerial approval.
  • Test and validate business continuity and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Train users in system operations.
  • Provide post-implementation support through service agreements.
  • Prioritize and execute tasks effectively in high-pressure situations.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in work scheduling as needed.
  • Participate in on-call technical support as required.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent with experience comparable to a bachelor's degree.
  • Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science.
  • Experience: 5+ years of overall IT experience, with 2+ years specifically in supporting and administering information system technologies.

Certifications

  • Must possess a current professional certification from a recognized technology vendor (e.g., Microsoft, VMware, Citrix, Cisco).

Physical Requirements

  • Extended periods of computer use.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Reliable transportation is necessary.
  • Annual influenza vaccination is required.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster shot is mandatory for site access.
