Corporate Counsel, Government & Regulatory Litigation

Amazon's Legal Department seeks a knowledgeable, skilled, and driven litigator to oversee its global portfolio of litigation and regulatory challenges, providing counsel on a diverse array of innovative legal and business risk management topics.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Managing and supervising a broad spectrum of domestic and international disputes and regulatory interactions.
  2. Engaging directly with government representatives, including regulatory bodies and law enforcement agencies.
  3. Formulating overall case strategies and managing external legal counsel.
  4. Evaluating risks and collaborating with senior management on risk mitigation strategies.
  5. Overseeing responses to discovery inquiries.

This role will primarily address disputes and potential disputes related to Amazon's global logistics and transportation operations, which are responsible for fulfilling orders and delivering packages to customers. This includes warehouse management, Prime Air drone delivery, electric bicycle logistics, workplace safety, sustainability initiatives, and compliance with global trade regulations.

This position reports to an Associate General Counsel specializing in Litigation & Regulatory matters and is part of Amazon's Government & Regulatory Litigation team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. J.D. degree (or equivalent) with active membership in at least one state bar.
  2. A minimum of five years of experience in litigation and regulatory matters.
  3. Proven experience in complex domestic and/or international business litigation, including trial experience and advising parties in pre-dispute and dispute resolution scenarios.
  4. Experience as a federal judicial clerk.
  5. Prior service in federal or state government, including experience in government litigation.
  6. Background in a law firm setting.
  7. Trial experience is essential.
  8. Ability to manage numerous critical projects independently, often in uncertain environments.
  9. Familiarity with the internet, software, and media sectors, along with their legal and regulatory frameworks.
  10. Team-oriented approach, capable of collaborating effectively with other attorneys, business clients, paralegals, and support staff.
  11. Experience working closely with and advising senior executives.
  12. Background in crisis management and response.
  13. Capability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
  14. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  15. Strong business acumen, practical judgment, and a good sense of humor.
  16. Commitment to the highest standards of ethics and professional integrity.

The base salary for this role ranges from $138,500/year in the lowest geographic market to $229,000/year in the highest.
