Position Overview:

We are currently in search of an Electrical Substation Design Engineer (Intermediate/Senior) within our Power Division. This role allows for remote work while collaborating with teams across the United States and Canada. Tetra Tech also provides access to local offices if needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assign and outline project tasks, provide technical guidance, and review work for accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare technical documentation and proposals in response to client Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
  • Develop and coordinate work schedules to meet project objectives regarding cost, quality, and timelines.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and clients to discuss design challenges and specifications.
  • Analyze problems, organize investigations, and determine specific design criteria.
  • Make commitments regarding project acceptance, completion dates, and resource allocation.
Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a university degree in Electrical Engineering and have over 8 years of relevant experience in the field. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in the study and design of electrical distribution systems and industrial controls, particularly in utility substations.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of medium and high voltage power distribution and transmission, including load flow, short circuit, and grounding studies.
  • Experience in preparing layouts, elevation views, and installation details for electrical systems.
  • Exceptional communication skills for client relations and project collaboration.
  • Experience in preparing technical specifications and evaluating proposals.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy facility design, including solar and wind projects.
  • Experience with HVDC projects and 3D design software.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada or the United States is required.
