Position Overview
WSP is seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team.

This role involves providing advanced technical support and direction for comprehensive due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial projects across both public and private sectors.

Key responsibilities include the research, design, conceptual development, planning, and construction of transmission and distribution substations, power distribution systems, renewable energy solutions, and protection and control systems in various contexts such as utilities, transportation, and government projects.

Your Contributions

Assist in gathering, compiling, and analyzing data related to physical work sites, blueprints, GIS data maps, and equipment specifications for procurement package development. Ensure compliance with IEEE, NESC, ANSI, NCEC, and NERC standards and regulations.

Review and approve electrical infrastructure design plans for smaller projects, ensuring data integrity and adherence to applicable codes and regulations.

Utilize advanced electrical engineering techniques to identify enhancements across project phases, including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operational phases.

Conduct complex electrical engineering tasks, including the design of single line and three line diagrams, substation layouts, grounding grid designs, and lightning protection systems, in compliance with relevant standards and permits.

Incorporate future-ready strategies and design requirements, focusing on equipment sizing, AC/DC panel design, and trenching design strategies that prioritize safety and functionality.

Review electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, grounding potentials, short circuit studies, and protective device coordination.

Develop and assess plans, specifications, and cost estimates, while coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure project success.

Manage the design and construction of electrical infrastructure projects from inception to completion, including site development, grading, drainage, and construction safety plans.

Oversee cross-functional teams to ensure project work is executed efficiently, including budget management, tracking hours and expenses, and compliance documentation.

Prepare detailed reports and visualizations to present complex data and findings effectively.

Maintain a high standard of quality and responsiveness to client needs, in alignment with WSP's standards.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
7 to 10 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, focusing on design deliverables for capital projects in power generation, transmission, and distribution.

Engineer license is mandatory.
Proficient in electrical engineering principles and practices, with extensive knowledge of infrastructure design.

Experience in electrical infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, with a solid understanding of relevant laws, codes, and compliance practices.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct inspections and investigations, applying applicable regulations.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of conveying ideas effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor junior team members while adhering to quality assurance standards.

Proficient in technical writing and various design software tools.

Strong problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of ensuring workplace safety and compliance with health and safety policies.

Ability to adapt to project-specific schedules and occasional travel requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Engineering.
40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.
Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training is a plus.
