Position Overview:
The University of Central Florida is looking to fill several openings for the Custodial Specialist I role. Candidates applying for this position will also be considered for other vacancies within the department. As a Custodial Specialist I, you will play a vital role in upholding the cleanliness and operational efficiency of campus facilities, contributing to a safe and inviting environment for all. This position involves a variety of responsibilities, emergency response, and opportunities for cross-training within a collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough cleaning of surfaces, furniture, walls, and equipment, adhering to established cleanliness standards.
- Vacuum carpeted areas, including relocating furniture as necessary, and perform spot cleaning as needed.
- Sweep, mop, and maintain all flooring surfaces, including stairwells and entries.
- Manage waste disposal and recycling processes to ensure cleanliness throughout the facility.
- Maintain and restock restrooms and common areas to ensure hygiene and availability.
- Execute carpet and upholstery cleaning according to scheduled maintenance plans.
- Assist with basic facility maintenance tasks such as painting, light bulb changes, and minor repairs.
- Respond swiftly to emergencies and urgent cleaning requests, ensuring minimal disruption.
- Perform physical tasks requiring standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Completion of 9th grade or an equivalent combination of education and experience as per Florida Statutes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least one year of experience in a custodial or similar role.
- Experience in basic maintenance tasks in either commercial or residential settings.
- Familiarity with cleaning tools and equipment.
- Proficiency in standard office software and work order systems.
- Understanding of safety protocols and the use of approved cleaning chemicals.
- Strong customer service skills and professional interaction with staff.
- Effective communication skills for following instructions.
- Ability to make basic decisions regarding cleaning and maintenance needs.
- Flexibility to adapt to various working conditions and schedules.
- Willingness to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
A physical examination is required for this position.
Additional Information:
This position requires a valid Class E driver's license, as it may involve travel to different locations for university-related tasks.
