Position Overview:

The University of Central Florida is looking to fill several openings for the Custodial Specialist I role. Candidates applying for this position will also be considered for other vacancies within the department. As a Custodial Specialist I, you will play a vital role in upholding the cleanliness and operational efficiency of campus facilities, contributing to a safe and inviting environment for all. This position involves a variety of responsibilities, emergency response, and opportunities for cross-training within a collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough cleaning of surfaces, furniture, walls, and equipment, adhering to established cleanliness standards.
  • Vacuum carpeted areas, including relocating furniture as necessary, and perform spot cleaning as needed.
  • Sweep, mop, and maintain all flooring surfaces, including stairwells and entries.
  • Manage waste disposal and recycling processes to ensure cleanliness throughout the facility.
  • Maintain and restock restrooms and common areas to ensure hygiene and availability.
  • Execute carpet and upholstery cleaning according to scheduled maintenance plans.
  • Assist with basic facility maintenance tasks such as painting, light bulb changes, and minor repairs.
  • Respond swiftly to emergencies and urgent cleaning requests, ensuring minimal disruption.
  • Perform physical tasks requiring standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of 9th grade or an equivalent combination of education and experience as per Florida Statutes.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least one year of experience in a custodial or similar role.
  • Experience in basic maintenance tasks in either commercial or residential settings.
  • Familiarity with cleaning tools and equipment.
  • Proficiency in standard office software and work order systems.
  • Understanding of safety protocols and the use of approved cleaning chemicals.
  • Strong customer service skills and professional interaction with staff.
  • Effective communication skills for following instructions.
  • Ability to make basic decisions regarding cleaning and maintenance needs.
  • Flexibility to adapt to various working conditions and schedules.
  • Willingness to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
Health Assessment:

A physical examination is required for this position.

Additional Information:

This position requires a valid Class E driver's license, as it may involve travel to different locations for university-related tasks.
