Job Summary

We are seeking a Medical Assistant Trainee to join our team at UNC Health. This is an entry-level position for a medical assistant who has graduated from an accredited medical assisting program but has not yet taken a credentialing exam, or who is within their final semester of an accredited medical assisting program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other healthcare team members in an outpatient clinic setting.
  • Work under the clinical supervision of the provider for patient care activities, and under the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor.
  • Perform rooming and/or intake process, collecting and data, including vital signs, height, weight, and data related to patient's reason for visit.
  • Collect patient and family data, including medical and social history.
  • Assist the provider as directed, during treatments, examinations and procedures.
  • Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy.
  • Provide patient with after-visit, follow-up, self-care or procedural instructions and/or educational materials as directed.
  • Prepare, clean, stock and maintain exam and treatment rooms.
  • Assist with patient registration, check in/check out, appointment scheduling, and scheduling of tests and treatments, and referrals.
Requirements
  • Must be in the final semester of a Medical Assisting Program.
  • Must obtain their Medical Assistant credentials within 18 months of hire.
  • Six months clinical experience preferred unless current student within final semester or graduate of an accredited medical assisting program.
