Peer Support Specialist

Job Summary:
Marion County, OR is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Peer Support Specialist to join our team. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will provide support, encouragement, and assistance to individuals with serious mental illness, promoting recovery and empowerment through shared experiences and self-help strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Provide peer support to individuals with serious mental health conditions and co-occurring substance use disorders.
- Establish a therapeutic connection with individuals in the Oregon State Hospital and provide follow-up services in the community upon discharge.
- Assist individuals in developing recovery goals, sharing personal recovery experiences, modeling effective self-help strategies, and acting as a peer advocate.
- Connect individuals with peer and community resources, including linkages to housing, treatment options, education, and employment.
- Promote activities that foster recovery and empowerment through shared experiences and self-help strategies.
- Provide education and/or training to assist individuals in acquiring skills that maintain community stability and independence.
Requirements:
- Self-identified person currently or formerly receiving mental health services.
- Traditional Healthcare Worker certification within six months of hire.
- Oregon Health Authority approved addictions and/or mental health peer support training program.
- Family and Youth Support Partners wraparound training and certification provided by Marion County.
- Family and Youth Support Partners continuing education units, 40 hours every three years.
- Peer Support Specialist continuing education units, 20 hours every three years.
Working Conditions:
This is a safety-sensitive/special needs position. Final candidates selected for this position will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, including testing for marijuana.
