Position Overview

The role of a Cashier is pivotal in delivering exceptional customer service through efficient and precise handling of transactions. Cashiers are responsible for welcoming customers, scanning items, processing returns, refunds, and exchanges, and utilizing the cash register to finalize sales. This position also encompasses maintenance and stocking duties as assigned. As the first and last point of contact for customers, Cashiers are expected to create a welcoming atmosphere by greeting each customer upon entry and expressing gratitude as they depart.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Engagement:

  • Welcome customers as they enter and exit the store, fostering a friendly environment.
  • Handle incoming phone inquiries promptly and courteously.
  • Accurately scan or record products being sold, returned, or transferred to maintain accurate sales and inventory records.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a balanced cash drawer and perform cash counts at the end of each shift.
  • Guide customers to the appropriate sales personnel and assist with inquiries regarding product location, pricing, and store hours.
  • Ensure a clean and organized checkout area.
  • Assist in merchandising and stocking tasks, particularly for items near the checkout.
  • Utilize in-store communication methods to request assistance for customers needing help with loading or returning products.
  • Report discrepancies in pricing or scanning issues through the designated resource center.

Safety and Security:

  • Maintain cleanliness in both the interior and exterior of the store.
  • Identify and address safety hazards proactively.
  • Follow company protocols regarding the handling of cash, credit cards, and checks.
  • Possess a solid understanding of store security measures and report any policy violations immediately.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in safe working condition.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and practices consistently.
  • Participate in regular safety meetings with fellow associates.

Additional duties may be assigned by store management or other qualified representatives as necessary.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to perform all responsibilities effectively. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential for interacting with customers, vendors, and team members. A customer-focused and collaborative approach is required, along with excellent organizational skills. Candidates must be capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously and must be physically able to perform duties such as climbing ladders, reaching, bending, and lifting items up to 50 lbs. Proficiency in using a scanner and accurately handling cash transactions is necessary. Flexibility in scheduling, including availability on weekends, evenings, and holidays, is expected.

This position is hourly and eligible for overtime. While there may be opportunities for advancement within the company, this role does not guarantee career progression.
