Position Overview

The Cashier Associate plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional customer service by ensuring efficient and accurate transaction processing. This position involves welcoming customers, scanning items, handling returns, and managing the cash register to finalize purchases. Additionally, responsibilities include maintaining the store's appearance and assisting with stock replenishment as needed. As the first and last point of contact for customers, the Cashier Associate is expected to create a positive shopping experience.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Engagement:

  • Welcome customers upon entry and exit, fostering a friendly atmosphere.
  • Handle incoming phone inquiries promptly and courteously.
  • Accurately scan and record items for sale, returns, or transfers to maintain accurate sales and inventory records.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a balanced cash drawer and perform cash counts at the end of shifts.
  • Guide customers to appropriate staff for assistance and address inquiries regarding product location, pricing, and store hours.
  • Ensure a clean and organized checkout area.
  • Assist in merchandising and restocking items, particularly those near the checkout.
  • Utilize in-store communication methods to request assistance for customers needing help with loading or returning products.
  • Report discrepancies in pricing or scanning issues using the designated resource center.

Safety and Security:

  • Maintain cleanliness in both the interior and exterior of the store.
  • Identify and report safety hazards or concerns.
  • Follow company protocols for handling cash, credit cards, and other payment methods.
  • Possess a strong understanding of store security measures and report any policy violations immediately.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in safe working condition.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and participate in regular safety meetings with team members.

Additional duties may be assigned by store management or authorized representatives as necessary.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to perform all duties effectively. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with customers, vendors, and colleagues. A customer-focused and team-oriented mindset is required, along with excellent organizational skills. Candidates must be capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously and physically able to perform tasks such as climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 lbs., and stocking items in high places. Proficiency in using a scanner and accurately handling cash transactions is necessary. Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, is expected.

This position is hourly and eligible for overtime. While there may be opportunities for advancement within the company, this role does not guarantee career progression.
