Job Summary

We are seeking a Family Support Specialist to work within our vision, mission, and philosophy to provide support and coaching for caregivers and to provide a parent perspective in various settings. The ideal candidate will utilize their personal and professional life experiences to establish credibility and infuse hope for a better future, demonstrate unconditional acceptance, and assist with problem-solving.

Responsibilities
  • Provide peer support to parents and caregivers served by the program.
  • Provide parents and caregivers with information about the agency and the process and procedures.
  • Participate in providing a variety of support services for parents/caregivers (e.g., family events, family activities).
  • Coach families to make decisions and develop plans based on their needs.
  • Collaborate in Child and Family team (CFT) meetings to ensure parent and family members have access, voice, and choice.
  • Identify community connections for internal teams.
  • Serve as consultant and supports shared understanding between family and providers.
  • Provide non-judgmental, culturally informed support to parents and caregivers.
  • Explore and identifies natural support systems and links families with community resources.
  • Models and coaches effective coping techniques.
  • Provides a caregiver's perspective in agency service support structures.
  • Assists with the design and implementation of trainings about the parent perspective.
  • Utilizes conflict resolution skills.
  • Participates in continuous learning processes related to engaging youth and families.
  • Maintains and manages schedule effectively to meet the needs of multiple families.
  • Produces and maintains accurate documentation within agency standards.
  • Holds staff accountable to service delivery principles related to family voice and choice.
  • Participates in service improvement and development efforts.
  • Participates in program and system meetings.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or GED required. Experience as a primary caregiver of a child with complex needs. 3 years as a parent or caregiver of a special needs child.

OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: Therapeutic crisis intervention and Agency training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Some college education is preferred. Speak, read, and/or write another language.
