Job SummaryThe Crisis Intervention Specialist will work within the vision, mission, and philosophy of Pacific Clinics. This role requires developing a strength-based relationship with clients in the context of a mental health or behavioral crisis. The specialist will intervene with individuals presenting with crisis behaviors, including agitation, aggression, active psychosis, suicidal ideation, and self-injury.
Responsibilities- Support mental health crisis hotline by gathering information, supporting callers, and identifying needs related to current crisis situations.
- Provide crisis assessment and de-escalation of adults or youth who are experiencing an acute mental health or behavioral crisis.
- Participate in information gathering and decision making related to involuntary psychiatric holds.
- Provide direct billable mental health services, document in alignment with MediCal regulations, and achieve set productivity expectations.
- Engage and support family members and other natural supports in the midst of an acute psychiatric crisis.
- Facilitate transport of individuals on 5150 holds, including providing clinical information to accepting hospitals or CSU/other psychiatric facilities.
- Assist individuals with identifying triggers, unmet needs, psychosocial factors contributing to ongoing acute mental health crisis.
- Provide linkage, referrals, and resources in the community based on identified needs.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology preferred.
- One (1) year experience working in the mental health field.
One year working with children or adults, BA/BS in related field preferred, highly desirable qualifications include interpersonal skills and the ability to write and speak in a grammatically correct manner.
Physical RequirementsThe employee must remain physically fit enough to keep children and self-safe. While performing these duties, the employee is required to perform the following physical tasks when the need arises: stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
