About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Subsystem Lead Engineer to join our team at General Motors. As a key member of our Low Voltage Infrastructure Team, you will be responsible for leading the development of systems and controls centered around on-vehicle low voltage power generation, energy storage, power management, distribution, and consumption on ICE, EV, and PHEV vehicle platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead functional breakdown, requirements development, and failure analysis for low voltage power management related subsystems and ART solutions.
  • Create and maintain functional and non-functional requirements in the Sub-System Technical Specification (SSTS) and Behavioral Test Specifications (BTS), using Behavioral Driven Development (BDD) methodologies.
  • Direct subsystem design with uniform, holistic solutions across diverse vehicle architectures to reduce complexity.
  • Coordinate with systems engineers and hardware teams to ensure alignment on interface and performance requirements.
  • Lead triad meetings for development of solution requirements and test cases to enable quality software creation.
  • Support the scrum team members in the decomposition and understanding of the solution or subsystem requirements as needed.
  • Collaborate with controls and software engineers to review software implementation, ensuring compliance with requirements.
  • Lead development of subsystem level FMEAs and collaborate on System and Component FMEAs.
  • Engage in root cause analysis for applicable subsystem related issues, translating solutions into new or revised requirements for low voltage power management.
  • Offer technical support for the power management related features to people internal and external to the Electric Power ART, help resolve PRTSs, share lessons learned/best practices, and capture IP/ROI's/etc.
  • Support Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) related planning and work acceptance meetings.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 5+ years of automotive engineering experience related to embedded controls, requirements development, architecture development, and/or systems engineering.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including independent judgement and decision-making skills, where problems are very unusual and extremely difficult.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and assignments with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results.
  • Physics-based understanding of voice-of-customer.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability of leading cross-functional teams, influencing without direct authority, and building relationships in difficult circumstances.
  • Experience defining and troubleshooting interactions between hardware and embedded controls.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering with a focus on Controls, Electrical, Mechanical, and/or Systems Engineering.
  • Design experience with automotive low voltage electric power related components, controls, subsystems, and/or architectures.
  • Familiarity with high voltage systems within electric and hybrid electric vehicles.
  • Experience developing requirements at the system or subsystem level.
