Job Description Summary:


As an integral part of the educational team at NAHMA - The National Affordable Housing Management Association, the teaching faculty is dedicated to fostering student achievement by cultivating an effective learning atmosphere. Responsibilities include addressing student needs, facilitating engaging instructional activities, exemplifying professional conduct, and nurturing collaborative relationships with colleagues and staff. Additionally, the instructor will support institutional administrative requirements and uphold expertise in their instructional domain.

The instructor will ensure high-quality education and actively engage in the broader college community.

Under general supervision, this role involves preparing and delivering the Apartment Maintenance Technician course, equipping students with the skills necessary for careers in the multi-family and apartment housing sector. The curriculum aligns with the Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technicians exam (CAMT), which is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and designed by the National Apartment Association (NAA) Education Institute.


Key Responsibilities:
Teaching:
Delivering departmental courses that encompass:
- Developing learner-focused lesson plans
- Utilizing diverse teaching strategies and instructional materials tailored to various learning preferences
- Integrating relevant technology into classroom, online, and laboratory settings as appropriate
- Creating and exemplifying a supportive learning environment for a diverse student body
- Preparing, distributing, and utilizing instructional support materials, including course outlines, supplementary resources, and instructional media
- Conducting assessments of student learning outcomes in accordance with established standards
Professional Development:
Maintaining a professional profile that aligns with the educational mission by:
- Engaging in ongoing professional development to stay current in the field
- Pursuing opportunities to enhance teaching methodologies and strategies
Administrative Duties:
Overseeing daily operations related to facilities, equipment, and student records, including:
- Ensuring the upkeep of classroom and laboratory environments
- Safeguarding facilities, equipment, and instructional materials while maintaining safe conditions
- Managing student records (e.g., grades and attendance) using various technology platforms
- Adhering to all relevant college, state, and federal regulations
Student Support:
Creating an environment conducive to student success by:
- Addressing student inquiries promptly
- Encouraging retention and persistence by assisting students in developing success strategies
- Referring students to appropriate campus and community resources when necessary
Demonstrating and embodying the College's employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem-solving, responsibility, and teamwork.

Additional Responsibilities:
Performing all tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Education:


A High School Diploma with journeyman level certification in a construction trade or an Associate's Degree in a construction discipline (e.g., Construction, Carpentry, Plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical) from an accredited post-secondary institution.


Preferred Education:
A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management from an accredited post-secondary institution.

National Center for Construction & Education Research (NCCER) Craft Instructor Certification
CFC/EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The Instructor must demonstrate a thorough understanding of and commitment to the mission and role of the Community College, particularly its focus on student success.
