Job Overview

Product Evaluation Technician I position available at Future Labs, LLC.

Since its inception, Future Labs, LLC has been a leader in providing independent laboratory assessments of product quality across various categories and their constituent materials. The laboratory conducts over 300 distinct evaluations according to ASTM, AASHTO, State DOTs, Federal, ISO, EN, and other International Standards. With a diverse clientele exceeding 300 customers, reports have been disseminated to numerous entities nationwide and internationally.

Position Type: Full-time, Salaried Exempt

Reporting To: Coatings Lab Manager

Position Characteristics:

Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Science, Chemistry, or Engineering.

Experience Required:

  • 0 to 5 years in a commercial laboratory setting.
  • Experience in testing Paint, Plastics, or Composites is preferred.
  • Familiarity with establishing testing methodologies and product evaluations is advantageous.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of polymeric materials.
  • Familiarity with standard testing methods for Paint, Plastics, or Composites.
  • Ability to prepare test samples comfortably.
  • Proficiency with shop tools.
  • Awareness of the manufacturing processes for polymeric products.
  • Knowledge of inorganic materials is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer usage, including MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Adept at learning and utilizing specialized software for analytical and physical testing equipment.
  • Comfortable operating both electronic and mechanical laboratory equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The primary duty of the Product Evaluation Technician is to assist in all facets of laboratory testing.
  • Areas of focus include, but are not limited to:
    • Highway Safety Products
    • Paints, Plastics, and Composites
    • Inorganic materials and the raw materials of tested products
  • The technician will be tasked with receiving product or material specifications, identifying necessary tests, and executing the appropriate evaluations. This skill set may develop over time for less experienced candidates.
  • Learning to calibrate or verify calibration on all testing apparatus will be required.
  • Interaction with clients via various communication methods to:
    • Ascertain their testing and certification needs.
    • Clarify report findings and testing methodologies.
  • Additional technical tasks as assigned by the Coatings Lab Manager or Technical Director may also be required.
