Job Title: Staff Quantum System Simulation Engineer

IonQ Inc. is a leading developer of quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Quantum System Simulation Engineer to join our team.

Job Summary

We are looking for a talented engineer to develop and implement methods for simulating quantum systems and architectures. The successful candidate will work closely with our engineering team to gather requirements, integrate noise models, and develop software infrastructure to enable simulations at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement methods for simulating quantum systems and architectures
  • Work with the engineering team to gather requirements and integrate noise models
  • Develop software infrastructure to enable simulations at scale
  • Improve the efficiency and code quality of existing simulation tools
  • Document and communicate software development activities to the engineering team
Requirements
  • PhD in Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in simulations of quantum systems and architectures
  • Strong programming skills in Python for scientific computing
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in a professional setting
  • Experience with open quantum systems and quantum error correction/mitigation algorithms
  • Experience with many-body physics and algorithms, matrix product state, and tensor network methods
  • Experience developing software and/or implementing algorithms to enable physics simulations
Location

This position is located in our newest facility in Bothell, WA.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $153,003 - $200,321. The base pay component of the offer will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
