Gpac is seeking a highly skilled R&D Manager to join our team in a key role that will drive the development of new product formulations and oversee the R&D process. This position will be responsible for creating new product formulations, managing the R&D process, and helping to create and monitor consistent high-quality products.
Key Responsibilities- Product Formulation Management: Manage the formulation process for new product development, understanding single ingredient functionality and its effect on processing parameters (brix, pH, texture, water activity, etc.)
- Customer Collaboration: Work with customers to understand their needs regarding flavor, nutrition, and label claims
- Supply Chain Management: Work with purchasing and suppliers to get materials in house for benchtop and line trials
- Documentation and Organization: Request all paperwork and logistical information on new ingredients, collaborating with the appropriate departments so they can follow up and complete the request
- Priority Coordination: Coordinate priorities with R&D Applications Specialist
- Sample Management: Organize and retain benchtop and trial samples for further review and shelf life analysis
- Formula Transfer: Lead the transfer of formulas from benchtop to line trial
- Formulation Optimization: Work on current formulations to make any changes as directed by management teams
- Product Development: Source and work with third-parties to develop products outside of current capabilities
- Nutritional Labeling: Maintain nutritional and labeling database and proof labeling information
- Label Creation: Create first draft tentative nutritional labels
- Label Review: Create, proof and review nutritional panels for packaging
- Plant Trials: Coordinate, manage, monitor, and document plant trials and first production runs
- Production Support: Provide paperwork and verbal instructions to production team to run production
- Production Monitoring: Collect data, samples, and attend to detail during production line trials and first production
- Team Development: Works with staff members to build bench strength and prepare employees for advancement opportunities
- Experience: 5 yrs experience in new product development and formulations in Food Science with Confectionary experience
- Education: BS degree in Food Science
- Skills: Understand multi-ingredient functionality, self-motivation, basic computer skills, excellent communication and organizational skills, ability to work well with others
