Position Overview: Oversee and manage the tasks of personnel involved in the operation and upkeep of engines, boilers, deck machinery, and electrical, sanitary, and refrigeration systems on board vessels.

A Typical Day for a Marine Engineering Specialist
  • Install and configure engine controls, propeller shafts, or propellers.
  • Procure and manage engine room supplies, including oil and spare parts, while maintaining accurate inventories and tracking usage.
  • Serve as a communication link between the vessel's captain and onshore staff to ensure adherence to schedules and budgets, while promoting safe and efficient ship operations.
  • Direct the work of marine engine technicians responsible for the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electrical marine systems, ensuring quality and compliance with standards.
  • Keep comprehensive records of engineering department activities, documenting machine operations and maintenance.
  • Participate in or conduct emergency drills as necessary.
