Position Overview: Under the guidance of senior staff, the individual will engage in a developmental role, progressively acquiring the skills necessary to oversee inmates at the correctional facility and ensure the security of the premises. This includes mastering the protocols for the management, care, and confinement of inmates, as well as supervising work assignments and recreational activities.

Progression of Responsibilities: As the individual gains experience, they will transition into a role that involves direct supervision of inmates, applying established protocols while continuing to manage work assignments and leisure activities, along with executing related tasks as required.

Incentive Program: The County of Lake offers a substantial hiring incentive of $10,000.00 for new hires in the Deputy Sheriff I/II roles. This incentive will be distributed in two payments of $5,000.00 each, with the first payment made shortly after the initial hire and the second upon successful completion of the probationary period.

Employment Commitment: To retain the hiring incentive, the employee must remain with the County for a minimum of two years. In the event of termination, the employee agrees to repay the incentive through payroll deductions or a personal check within a specified timeframe.

Licensing and Certifications: Candidates must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid California Driver's License. Out-of-state licenses may be accepted temporarily, provided the candidate commits to obtaining a California license as mandated by law. Completion of a Basic Jail Operations Course approved by S.T.C. is required within six months of employment, along with P.C. 832 and weapons training within 120 days.

Education and Experience Requirements: Candidates should have at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a correctional environment or roles with significant public interaction is highly desirable.
