Job Summary

The Chief Psychiatrist is responsible for developing, overseeing, and directing the quality and operations of Physician Services within psychiatry for the psychiatric treatment of individuals housed at the institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement quality and operational strategies for Physician Services within psychiatry.
  • Oversee and direct the work of psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals.
  • Collaborate with the Statewide Chief Psychiatrist and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with departmental goals and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff on matters related to psychiatric care and treatment.

Requirements

  • Possession of the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the Medical Board of California or the California Board of Osteopathic Examiners.
  • Possession of a valid certificate in psychiatry issued by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry.
  • Two years of post-residency experience as a psychiatrist in a correctional facility, or in a psychiatric inpatient or outpatient setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a four-year residency training program in psychiatry accredited by the ACGME or Bureau of Osteopathic Education of the AOA.
  • Three years of postgraduate, specialized residency training in an ACGME or Bureau of Osteopathic Education of the AOA-accredited psychiatry program.
