Psychiatrist - Correctional Facility

AvaMed Workforce is seeking a highly skilled Psychiatrist to provide mental health services in a correctional facility setting. The ideal candidate will have experience working with mentally ill inmates and be able to provide clinical face-to-face interviews, conduct initial mental health evaluations, and develop treatment plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meet with mentally ill patient-inmates for crisis interventions, face-to-face interviews, and other clinical services.
- Conduct initial mental health evaluations, including criminal, psychiatric, and substance abuse case history, to assess inmate needs and make treatment recommendations.
- Provide clinical face-to-face interviews at cell fronts in inmate housing units, including multi-tiered housing units that may require climbing stairs and walking long distances.
- Develop and implement treatment plans, including medication management and therapy, to address inmate mental health needs.
- Participate in Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) meetings to coordinate care and develop treatment plans.
- Document all care provided to patient-inmates, including face-to-face contacts and IDTT meetings.
- Monitor inmate progress using Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan and Education (SOAPE) formatted progress notes.
- Apply community standard of practice for psychiatric treatment modalities and ethical standards.
Requirements:
- Must be licensed by the Medical Board of California as a Medical Doctor (M.D.) and boarded by either the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry (AOBNP).
- Experience working in a correctional facility setting, preferably with mentally ill inmates.
- Ability to provide clinical face-to-face interviews at cell fronts in inmate housing units.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with inmates, staff, and other healthcare professionals.
