Optometrist - Correctional Facility

We are seeking an experienced Optometrist to join our team at California Correctional Health Care Services. As an Optometrist, you will be responsible for examining the eyes and correcting defects using lenses, prisms, or eye exercises. You will determine the accommodative and refractive states of the eye and the scope of its function in general, and measure the powers of vision and determine the adaptation of lenses for aiding vision.

- Measure the powers of vision and determine the adaptation of lenses for aiding vision
- Prescribe, fit, adjust, and repair glasses
- Instruct ancillary medical staff in techniques and methods
- Keep records, prepare reports, and dictate correspondence
- Maintain order and supervise the conduct of persons committed to the Department of Corrections
- Prevent escapes and injury by these persons to themselves, others, or to property
- Maintain security of working areas and work materials
- Inspect premises and search inmates for contraband, such as weapons or illegal drugs
- Possession of a valid license to practice optometry in the State of California
- Two years of experience in the practice of optometry
Travel is required.

If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you must include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.
Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
