Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will play a vital role in delivering medical care under the supervision of orthopedic surgeons. This position involves collaboration with a team of healthcare providers, including another Physician Assistant and the surgeon, to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The selected candidate will manage their own clinic schedule and participate in surgical procedures, averaging 1.5 days per week in the operating room. Additionally, this role includes taking part in outpatient phone calls and inpatient care as part of a rotating schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluate patient health status, including wellness and adherence to treatment plans, and determine necessary diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
  2. Provide comprehensive care for acute and chronic conditions, including patient assessments, physical examinations, and administration of medications and treatments.
  3. Manage patient inquiries and assess their health concerns effectively.
  4. Respond to emergency situations, including performing CPR when necessary.
  5. Document patient interactions and care provided in medical records, ensuring accurate maintenance of patient statistics.
  6. Educate patients and their families to promote understanding and continuity of care.
  7. Assist surgeons during procedures in the operating room.
  8. Participate in hospital rounds and address patient calls after hours and on weekends.
  9. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals as needed.
  10. Uphold patient confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications:

Education:

Current certifications in CPR and ACLS are required.

For Physician Assistants:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is preferred, with graduation from an AMA-accredited Physician Assistant program and active or scheduled NCCPA certification.

For Nurse Practitioners:

A valid Arizona Registered Nurse license and an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license are required, along with certification from a nationally recognized certifying body approved by the Arizona APRN Board.

Completion of a program that aligns with AORN Standards for RN First Assist education is necessary for NPs acting as first assistants in the operating room.
