Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Specialist to join our team at Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the proper and ethical functioning of our accounting and financial information system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including transaction processing and preparation of financial statements.
  • Act as the system administrator of our financial information system, setting up new general ledger accounts and vendor setup/maintenance.
  • Administer Wells Fargo banking and corporate credit card platforms.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual operations budget, including coordinating with other departments and compiling request data.
  • Review and process various financial documents, including accounts payable checks, vendor invoices, and bank reconciliations.
  • Examine internal processes and provide recommendations for efficiencies through technology.
  • Maintain awareness of new products, technologies, trends, and advances in the profession, and make recommendations accordingly.
  • Assist external auditors and management with additional accounting duties as requested.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, supplemented by five years of experience and/or training in governmental accounting, budgeting, or finance.
  • Good analytical skills, computer proficiency with a computerized accounting system, mathematical skills, general accounting knowledge, and a high degree of professional skepticism.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with computer software processing, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and general ledger applications.
  • Strong analytical skills and the exercise of professional skepticism.
  • Ability to utilize mathematical formulas, add and subtract totals, multiply and divide, determine percentages and decimals, and employ advanced financial and statistical analysis.
