Job Overview

Shriners Children's is recognized as a leading medical center for pediatric burn care, orthopedic treatment, spinal cord injury rehabilitation, cleft lip and palate correction, and various pediatric subspecialties.

We are currently seeking an on-call Recreational Therapist to enhance our Recreation Therapy and Rehabilitation team.

This role is per diem (on-call), non-exempt, and eligible for benefits. The compensation for this position ranges from $24.56 to $30.70 per hour, based on experience and departmental equity.

Responsibilities

As a vital member of the interdisciplinary team, the Recreational Therapist will deliver individualized therapeutic recreation services and facilitate group recreation activities for children and adolescents undergoing orthopedic surgical procedures or participating in long-term rehabilitation.

Your role will involve creating enriching play and life experiences that foster development, enhance understanding, and dispel misconceptions, thereby providing opportunities for positive growth for the patients.

This position also includes the responsibility of supervising student interns and volunteers, as well as orienting new students and volunteers to the department and assigning appropriate duties.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Certification/Licensure

Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) is required.


Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS for HCP) certification, recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA), is also required.

A valid Driver's License is necessary.

Skills

A minimum of one (1) year of experience in an acute care environment is preferred, ideally within a pediatric orthopedic setting. Experience in supervising students and volunteers is also advantageous.
