Recreational Therapist

This position plays a vital role in providing supportive, therapeutic, and recreational activities to patients/residents in a hospital or long-term care facility. Under general direction, the successful candidate will exercise initiative and imagination in planning, organizing, and implementing activities that cater to the diverse needs and abilities of the subject group.
Key Responsibilities:- Assess and re-assess residents' activity interest needs and concerns through observation, conversation, and written information, in collaboration with the supervisor.
- Coordinate activities with other hospital staff to ensure the availability of necessary supplies, equipment, and materials, and to avoid conflicts with other disciplines or schedules.
- Work closely with the hospital's dietary department to arrange for special or ethnic food selections and to ensure that dietary personnel are aware of patients/residents' meal plans and any changes.
- Transport patients/residents to and from recreational activities and assist with ambulation when necessary.
- Implement moderately complex therapeutic measures prescribed for patients/residents in accordance with standard methods and procedures.
- Record entries and maintain records of patient/resident charts, documenting behaviors, attitudes, responses, plans, goals, and other significant incidents on a regular basis.
- Prepare, set up, clean up, and return equipment and supplies to their proper areas after activities, and assist with inventories and maintenance of recreational facilities and equipment.
- Minimum one (1) year of work experience in a hospital or medical institution/program observing, reporting, and implementing care on physical and/or mental symptoms and conditions, and providing recreational therapy practices or techniques.
- Completion of an occupational therapy assistant education program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) or graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, special education, psychology, or sociology.
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association within one month of hire.
- Possession of a Public Utilities Carrier license.
