The Sheriff's Office of Falls Church is seeking a dedicated full-time Deputy Sheriff who holds Virginia DCJS certification. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities including court security, prisoner transport, civil process execution, and law enforcement duties within a dynamic and compact jurisdiction.

Falls Church is an independent city characterized by its small size (2.2 square miles) and a population of approximately 15,000 residents. It is strategically located just six miles from the capital, nestled between the larger urban counties of Arlington and Fairfax. The city prides itself on its vibrant community atmosphere, exceptional customer service, and a highly regarded educational system.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Completion of thorough background checks, including previous employment verification and fingerprinting for criminal history.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or in the process of obtaining citizenship.
  • Minimum age of 21 at the time of hiring.
  • Possession of a valid U.S. state driver's license.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Non-smoker, including non-use of vaping products.
  • Vision must be 20/20 with correction; must pass near/night vision and peripheral vision tests.
  • Excellent physical fitness and satisfactory medical examination results.
  • Capability to remain standing for long durations, including in adverse weather conditions, as well as extended periods of sitting while operating agency vehicles.
  • Ability to engage in apprehension and enforce criminal and traffic laws.
  • Preference for qualified veterans in hiring.

Disqualifying Factors (Partial List):

  • Any arrest, plea, or conviction at any age for any offense, including misdemeanors, may lead to disqualification.
  • Guilty plea or conviction for a felony, or any offense that would be classified as a felony in Virginia.
  • Class 1 or 2 misdemeanors committed as an adult, including DUI offenses.
  • Positive results from any pre-employment drug screening.
  • More than one moving violation within the past year or two within the last two years from the application date.
  • Any behavior or circumstance deemed unacceptable for law enforcement and public safety by the Sheriff's Office.

Work Schedule:

This position is full-time, typically scheduled Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM, with required overtime for special events and other situations.

Compensation and Benefits:

The starting salary for qualified Deputy Sheriffs ranges from $68,000 to $79,000 annually, with potential increases based on experience and qualifications.
