KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the safe transportation of patients to and from surgical areas.
- Serve as a primary assistant during surgical procedures, adhering to the defined scope of practice and competencies.
- Review surgical preference cards and select the necessary supplies and equipment for assigned procedures.
- Maintain accountability for the management of supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner.
- Ensure all equipment is draped in a sterile manner.
- Identify specimens for processing by the circulating nurse.
- Conduct counts of instruments, sharps, and sponges before, during, and after surgical procedures.
- Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization, ensuring proper handling of soiled items.
- Recognize and report any issues that may compromise patient safety.
- Uphold patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Maintain stock levels in Operating Room supply carts as necessary.
- Identify and report problems related to surgical kits, equipment, or supplies.
- Contribute to the cleanliness and organization of the surgical unit.
- Facilitate efficient turnover times by prioritizing activities related to necessary equipment and instrumentation for upcoming cases.
- Ensure patient comfort and safety measures are consistently upheld.
- Assist surgeons during procedures with a high level of efficiency, anticipating needs throughout the operation.
- Participate in daily departmental maintenance, including restocking and preparing for upcoming cases.
- Utilize non-chargeable items effectively and responsibly.
- Train and orient new staff on the proper use of instruments and equipment.
- Follow all protocols for decontaminating, sterilizing, and disinfecting instruments and equipment.
- Assemble and package items correctly and in a timely manner.
- Operate the autoclave unit and perform high-level disinfection processes as required.
- Undertake additional duties as necessary.
- Clearly communicate and support the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health.
- Conduct all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or possess equivalent military training.
- Certification is required or must be obtained within six months of employment.
Bonus is intended for external candidates and requires a 24-month commitment.

Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Call rotation.80 hours per bi-weekly pay period.
